Uptown is one of Dallas’ most walkable mixed-use neighborhoods, with apartments, offices, restaurants, shopping, parks and entertainment packed just north of downtown.
Understand the neighborhood first
Uptown Dallas is not one single strip. Uptown Dallas, Inc. identifies several districts and subareas, including State Thomas, West Village, Cityplace, The Crescent, Katy Trail, The Quad, McKinney Avenue and Griggs Park.
Katy Trail
Katy Trail is the neighborhood’s outdoor backbone. It gives walkers, runners and cyclists a useful north-south route and connects naturally with restaurants, residential areas and nearby parks.
McKinney Avenue and the M-Line
The free M-Line Trolley is one of the easiest ways to explore Uptown without constantly moving your car. DART notes that the M-Line operates seven days a week and connects into central Dallas destinations.
West Village and dining
West Village combines restaurants, retail and residences in a walkable cluster. Elsewhere in Uptown, dining ranges from casual patios to higher-end restaurants around The Crescent and McKinney Avenue.
Best time to visit
Morning and late afternoon are ideal if you want to walk Katy Trail. Lunch works for a quieter neighborhood feel, while evenings bring more restaurant and nightlife traffic.
Who Uptown fits
Uptown works well for visitors who want to stay close to downtown but prefer a neighborhood with more residential energy, outdoor space and walkable restaurants.
